As long as you follow the theme and your submission can fit within the specs requirements, you can do whatever you want! You're an art student, be wild!

🟑 You can submit one additional writing work along with your zine submission, but it has to follow the theme and fits within the display guidelines.

🟑 If you want to collab with other student(s), indicate so within your application, this will be count as one artwork for all of the collaborators within that group.

II. ZINE INFORMATION
🟑 The theme for 2022 Summer Zine is
🎡 Summer Symphonies 🎡 β€” What are your go to summer songs? Capture the special feeling your summer symphonies give to you using whatever creative methods you want, and have fun jamming out too!

We are all familiar with top billboard songs for the summer and music artists scrambling to put out the next summer banger, but what about the songs that are personal to you? The ones that either remind you of the fun and restful season or put you in the mood for summer fun. Put on your summer symphonies and create a piece that captures the special feeling they give you.

β˜€οΈ 2022 Zine Theme is 🎡 Summer Symphonies 🎡 β€” What are your go to summer songs? Capture the special feeling your summer symphonies give to you using whatever creative methods you want, and have fun jamming out too!

β˜€οΈ Where's the Guidelines page?

β˜€οΈ Where's the About page?
https://mcadsummerzine.carrd.co/#about

β˜€οΈ Where's the Contact page?
https://mcadsummerzine.carrd.co/#contact

β˜€οΈ Where's the Application?
https://forms.gle/3hCCpFpAgE1UooSJA

β˜€οΈ Why can't I access the application form even though it's opened now?
We apologize for the inconvenience! It seems like if you logged into your MCAD email while filling out the form, it won't let you access it... But if you logged into a regular Gmail domain like [email protected], then it gives you access again. If anyone knows how to fix this issue, please kindly let us know about it!

β˜€οΈ Can I work on something that is not related to my major? For example, I'm an Animation major but I want to make a sculpture for the zine, or I'm a Comic major and I want to work on an animated illustration.
Of course! We're pretty chill so you can do whatever you want that makes you feel connected to your creativity and motivated to work on the zine. We don't want to force you to work on a ten minutes animation if you have been doing that all semester and need a break from it. Use this zine as a space for growth and exploration!

β˜€οΈ Can I submit works that have been made before?
We prefer new works since the point of the zine is to bring creativity into summer. However, if you are really tied with time and still want to participate in the zine, we can accept your work, but only if it revolves around the theme. We hope this won't be the case since we want to encourage MCAD students to make new work together this summer that focuses on one theme 😊

β˜€οΈ Will this zine be an annual thing?
It depends on the interests we get from this zine and whether or not the mods are available in the following years!

β˜€οΈ Why are there no physical copies available?
This zine will be published as a free e-zine, meaning it will be publicly published as a PDF and anyone can download it. We're planning to ask for funding from MCAD and possibly help from the Service Bureau when the application closes to see how much it would be to physically print everything out as a gift for the contributors.
But since there are many applicants in the zine (over 50), and each person takes approx. 1-4 pages, we might not be able to make physical copies for everyone. We might use that funding from MCAD to make a small gift instead for the contributors. We'll update you more about this as the application period ends!

β˜€οΈ Are there any merchandise that goes along with the zine?
We'll keep you updated about this matter as the application period ends!

β˜€οΈ Can we change our idea halfway?
We recommend not doing so because that can rush your timeline due to having to start over. But if you absolutely have to, kindly let your mod knows about it and just proceed with the work however you want as long as you follow along with the next check-in.

β˜€οΈ Can transfer students and undeclared students participated?
Yes yes yes!! All MCAD students, including incoming students, current students, and alumni, are welcome to join <3

β˜€οΈ I have submitted my application, now what?
Congratulations! You can start working on your ideation and sketches right away! A mod will be assigned to you a few days before the first check-in. If we have any problems with your application we will let you know.

β˜€οΈCan I submit my portfolio works later since they are not ready now?
Yes! The Instagram feature thing is totally optional so you don't have to stress about it. And you can always go back to edit your application if you need to (include uploading portfolio works for featured). If you cannot get them done or submitted by June 10 when the application closes, kindly let us know about it via email, discord, or DM on Instagram.

β˜€οΈDoes the portfolio works have to be school works or can they be personal works
You can submit any artworks that you feel proud of! Even if it doesn't relate to your specific majors or things you want to do in the zine!

β˜€οΈ I have a question about the application, who should I contact?
Feel free to contact us through email or hop onto our discord channel!

β˜€οΈ How many applicants are you taking?
We want as many MCAD students to participate as possible. As long as you filled out the application, you're registered as part of the zine and you're welcome to move on to ideation and sketching.

β˜€οΈ Do I need to work on something that relates to my major? For example, if I'm a Film major can I work on an illustration?
Nope! You can work using whatever medium you want as long as it follows the guidelines! Do whatever you feel most fun and most motivated for the zine. Use this zine as a space for growth and exploration!

β˜€οΈ Can I be a moderator as well as a contributor?
Feel free to contact us if you want to be a moderator! Depends on how many people join the zine, we might need more help 😊

β˜€οΈ How can I contribute my works if I'm an Animation/Film/Multimedia, Product/Furniture Design, or Print Paper Book major?
For Animation/Film/Multimedia majors: You have one page in the zine to document your work. As long as desired, these majors can either include a screenshot or poster for zine + QR code to the full video.
For 3D majors and Print Paper Book: You have 1-2 pages in the zine to document the work. The product can be as big as desired. For the display of the work, you can submit photography of finished work for zine + QR code to all photos if more than what can be shown.

β˜€οΈ How can I make a QR Code?
After you submit your works to the submission link, we will archive them accordingly and generate a QR Code for them.

β˜€οΈ How do you want my file to be named?
All submission should be named according to this format: Lastname_Firstname_Major_ArtworkName

β˜€οΈ I want to submit text works (creative writings, instruction, etc.) along with my artwork!
Great! If you're a Creative Writing minor, then you can submit one additional writing work along with your major submission, but it has to follow the theme and fits within the display guidelines. If you're not a Creative Writing minor and want to submit writing along with your artwork, please indicate so within your application.

β˜€οΈ I have more questions!
Feel free to reach out to us on discord or via email!
